Twist and Crawl

I San Francisco genomförs nu en konstutställning vid namnet "Twist and Crawl" av NIAD (Richmond's National Institute for Art and Disabilities). Utställningen mixar konstnärer med olika funktionsförmågor. När konsten möter betraktaren vet man inte om en funktionsnedsättning finns eller inte. Man ser bara konsten. Sån är i alla fall idén.

Ytterligare en fördel med gemensamma utställningar av det här slaget är att konstnärerna får låna varandras publik/konstintresserade. Och den bonusen funkar ju åt "båda hållen", för vad är det som säger att den ena konstnären/funktionsförmågan per automatik har fler intresserade än den andra?

Här är verk från några av artisterna som är med. De är hämtade från NIADs hemsida. Själva utställningens hemsida visar inga verk. Jag kan därför inte garantera att de bilder som visas här faktiskt deltar i utställningen, bara konstnärerna bakom dem.

Willie Harris:


från hemsidan: "Willie Harris' multitude of sprightly ink drawings and prints of a wide-eyed elfin figure with outstretched arms, ears and hair are self-portraits of the artist. A second but less common theme is of his home. The tension between his fine black lines and dense clusters of scribblings energizes these and other Harris artwork.

These pieces, we sense, tell a continuous story about the artist. Yet we can only imagine what he may be thinking about. He is prolific and nearly obsessed, rarely parting from his two themes."



Lacee King:


Från hemsidan: "Lacee King has been working at NIAD for years and creating art is her favorite activity. "I make art for fun, to calm my nerves, to decorate my home, and for a sense of accomplishment." Although she was born blind this does not impede her ability to transform paper or fabric into wonderful creations.

Lacking vision means her tactile sense becomes dominant as she bends, rolls, glues, and sews to make her creations. King's recent work includes a series of embossed prints and a braided rope sculpture.

In the spring of 2006, Lacee King was awarded the Vegari Prize during the annual Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, INSIGHTS 2006 exhibition, which took place at the San Francisco, CA, city hall. As a result of recieving this prize she is one of the featured artists in the INSIGHTS 2007 exhibition, taking place from October 9 to December 7, with nine prints and one sculpture on display."
